Spreading The Word About Your Business

As a nation we Americans are a very proud people. Especially when it comes to asking for help from other people. For some reason we would rather swim with hungry sharks than ask someone for help. But at the same time it makes us feel great when we help someone else. What we need to realize is that when you need help all you have to do is ask, because there is someone waiting to lend a helping hand, especially when it comes to your business.

The best, and most successful marketing strategy, is word of mouth. That means you need to get your customers talking to their friends and family about your business. We realize that this can be a little tough to do for the prideful folk out there. So here are some tips on how to ask for recommendations for your business in a respectful and tactful way.

Face To Face

First rule to remember when asking for recommendations, always ask for them face to face. It’s just more respectful to the individual and more successful. People are more likely to do something for you when you are standing right in front of them, rather than reading your email right before bed.

Leave Your Card

You bought those business cards to give away, not to hold in your wallet for the rest of your life. Start passing those babies out! Seriously, if you give people something to hold onto they will remember to recommend you. And when they do, they will have something to give to their friends and family with your information on it.

Don’t Mix Bills With Recommendations

Remember to never ask for a recommendation when you’re delivering a bill to the client. Not only is it tacky, but your client won’t be in the best of mood when you ask for the recommendation. Who feels good after receiving a bill? No one. So make sure when you ask for the recommendation, you make a visit just for that purpose.

Ask For Testimonial

Don’t forget to ask for testimonials as well. These are great because your current customer can go home and take time to write out a compelling experience they have had with your business. And it’s the gift that keeps giving because testimonials are timeless.

Keep On Keepin’ On

The more referrals you ask for, the more clients you will get, and the more your business will grow. Small businesses need all the help they can get so don’t run your business into the ground because you’re shy or lazy. Get out there and start networking with your clients to make your business as successful as it can be!
