Right now this blog has only 3 seconds to grab your attention.

Why?

Because we live we live in the “3 second generation” where online marketing must peak interest immediately or the reader will move onto something else. And if you’ve made it just this far than the blog has successfully surpassed the 3-second rule.

So now that I have your attention let’s talk about why online content has such little time to capture someone’s interest.

According to a study done at the University of California, San Diego, the average American is exposed to  6.9 million gigabytes of information a day. That’s the equivalent of 174 newspapers and 15 hours worth of media every day. With so much accessible information at their fingertips the consumer naturally sifts through all the information that doesn’t immediately peak their interest because there’s so much to get through. And the numbers are only expected to get higher as mobile technology develops.

So what can we as online marketers do to ensure your content is an “attention grabber”? The following (attention grabbing) list will provide you with the answer.

  • Short and simple

People want to get in, find their information, and get out. Simple as that.
