Two very different eras. Two Christmas music legends. One champion.

Of all of the hundreds of musicians that have taken on the holiday music industry, two stand out above the crowd. Bing Crosby set the standard on Christmas of 1941 with the history making hit “White Christmas”. Mariah Carey has graced the holiday season for years with her soulful, seasonal jams. So which of the two is the greatest?

If we were to look at just the number of hits, Crosby takes the lead. If we take into consideration the number of times each artist gets played at your typical Christmas party, Miss Carey would likely win that particular battle.

Let’s go head to head with each artist’s best, Christmas hit:

Bing Crosby – White Christmas (10,247,205 plays on Spotify)

Mariah Carey – All I Want for Christmas is You (18,280,470 plays on Spotify)

Mariah has more plays on both Spotify and YouTube, but Bing has a movie. Mariah is more current, but Bing is timeless. Mariah is known for her vocal acrobatics, but Bing defined a genre.

So I decided to turn to the Facebook community for help. The response was surprising. Bing Crosby was the obvious victor, according to voters who unanimously chose Bing as king! They stated that while Mariah Carey was talented, she did not have what it takes remain a legend for decades the way Bing has. They also pointed out that her music is fun for parties but fails to capture the true spirit of Christmas the way Bing’s does. There you have it folks! I hereby dub Mr. Bing Crosby, King of Holiday Music, and may you all have a Merry Musical Holiday Season!
