Secrets make friends

The Internet is a mysterious place. No one knows what it contains. For just a second I was tempted to look up the size of the Internet. I didn’t look it up because it grows so fast that by the time I got the answer it would be irrelevant. The internet is constantly changing. So instead of giving you facts and numbers I have decided to share a couple of my favorite Internet secrets.

The Google search bar. Google is notorious for hiding little tricks in their products. They call these tricks “easter eggs”. Here is a list of fun Google tricks. Try typing these into the search bar and see what happens.

  • Do a barrell roll – Be ready for some spinning.

  • Tilt – If you type tilt into the google search bar the entire page will tilt to the right.

  • Recursion – Google gets clever here and asks Did you mean: recursion

  • Anagram – Well played google. Well played. Did you mean: nag a ram

  • The Konami Code has gone down in Internet history. What is the Konami Code you ask? Well I already know two things about you.

      1. You were not a child during the 90’s.
      2. You never played the video game Contra.
The Konami code was a cheat code used in a lot of old video games. Upon entering the code (using the arrow keys) up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, the entire game would change and your character would become invincible. Well a lot of web designers got the idea that the Konami Code should apply to real life and are doing their part to make that happen. Many websites have the konami code written in. If you type in up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a into certain sites they will instantly change. Here are a few of my favorite Konami Code friendly sites. The list is in a specific order with my favorite at the top.

  • – This one gets me everytime. You can Justin Bieberize this website. Upon entering the Konami Code the entire site turns into Justin Bieber. You’ll have to see it for yourself.

  • – This one is kind of a geek thing. I mean look at the name of the website. There will be a pop-up that says “All your base are belong to us!” An old video game style video will then proceed to play. It is very entertaining. Note that this website was originally in French.

  • – I have nothing to say about this website. Just go and find out. Make sure your speakers are on and get ready to dance.

  • I hope you have gotten a good laugh out of one or two of those sites. If nothing more, at least tell me I gave you an office trick you can share with your co-workers. If you have any questions or you’d like to know more secrets of the internet feel free to leave a comment and ask.
