Within the past few years Provo has received attention for a lot more than just an unpredictable football team. The summer farmer’s market, the bicycle collective, and a number of different community events, concerts, and festivals have all drawn attention to Provo city in recent years. But above all that Provo has received recognition for, both local and national onlookers are most interested in Provo’s music scene.
Provo music genres primarily include folk, electronic, punk, and rock. Although many Provo bands are inspired by similar big name musicians/bands, these bands consistently produce fresh sounds that call the attention of both local and distant fans.
While you may have heard of some of the more mainstream successful band names that have come from Provo (Neon Trees, Imagine Dragons, and Desert Noises), there is a lot of talent that is still emerging from younger bands that still call Provo home. A few of these include: Lake Island, Baby Ghosts, Mooninite, Mideau, Bat Manors, Polytype, and the list goes on.
So next time you’re in Provo and you’re looking for something awesome to do, check out a local show. And if that happens to be this weekend, come by Velour (just a few blocks away from our Provo Innovation Simple office) on Friday, Sept. 20 and check out Lake Island’s album release!
