For most people, the Domain Name System (DNS) can be defined as the naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet. An often used analogy to explain the Domain Name System is that it serves as the “phone book” for the Internet by translating human-friendly computer hostnames into IP addresses. For example, www.example.com translates to 208.77.188.166. This is where the word “domain name” comes from. The entire internet is connected by IP addresses that serve as the home to internet real estate. Domain names resolve to IP addresses and give a home for websites to host their services.
