Everything You Need To Know

Halloween is tomorrow, and we are so excited to get our work done for our marketing clients so we can go home to start the celebrations. But before we put on those costumes and buy our candy, we want to give you some insights about this holiday. We will start off with the name, Halloween. When Halloween originated, people referred to the night as All Hallows Eve. Over the years the name has been shortened for easier conversation.

Here are some more fun facts about Halloween.

1. Traditional Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting haunted houses and carving pumpkins.

2. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried the Holiday over to America in the 19th century.

3. The roots of Halloween is in the ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. The festival is celebrated at the end of harvest season when the people believed that on October 31, the veil between the living and dead was lifted.

4. Masks and costumes were created to mimic or appease the evil spirits during this time when the veil was thought to be lifted.

5. The phrase “Trick or Treat” asked by children has a different meaning today than what it did in years past. If children weren’t given a treat by the homeowner, the children would play a trick or prank on the residents of the home.

6. In Ohio, Iowa, and Massachusetts, Halloween is referred to as Beggars Night.

7. Because of the influence the US has in media, other countries are adopting the holiday.
