Google+ vs. Facebook | Is this on Pay-Per-View?
In the Right Corner….
We’re not just talking to SEO and Internet marketing experts when we say this. Google+ is kind of big thing now. Pretend you were the only kid on the block with a yoyo. You learned all the tricks. Everyone idolized you. You were all that. Then the kid next door all of the sudden pops up out of nowhere with the latest and greatest yoyo. It even lights up and makes sounds. The group splits in two. Someone’s gonna’ throw down.
Facebook was revolutionary in every way. First, the college communities were interacting with each other via Facebook. Then younger crowds found out about it and went nuts. Soon enough, even parents were interested in connecting with their old high school pals. Once businesses started joining the band wagon, we had a whole new breed of something we had never seen before (Myspace who?).
And in the Left Corner….
Facebook connected to our brains and never let go. 5 minutes a day turned into 30 minutes which turned into 2 hours. People had a new place to hangout. The shopping malls got a little emptier. This was a Bat Signal to Internet marketers. “If they’re over there and we’re over here, that means…..light bulb.” We started using Facebook as an online marketing tool. It worked. Businesses started advertising their Facebook pages on TV commercials rather than their actual websites.
Then Google pulled the “I got the new yoyo” card on Facebook. Google+ was that yoyo. Though Facebook is still home to over 500,000,000 people, Google+ began stealing some of the show, especially when it came to online marketing. Since all we want to do is rank on Google, we figured we should start using Google’s own social media outlet. Google even came out and said, “Use us, and we will give you treats.”
Guess what? Google+ hit 50,000,000 users around September 26, 2011. It launched to users 18 years and older on September 20, 2011.
So, will Google+ beat Facebook? Who knows. All we have to say is, “Bravo, Google. You really do control our universe.” Who knows what will happen in the next year or two, but it’s probably going to get ugly. It’ll sure be fun watch though.
