Gourmet Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate is a holiday classic. Despite how much I enjoy hot chocolate I am growing tired of the old hot chocolate packets. It just doesn’t cut it anymore. I feel like the powder is a base. To have a truly delicious cup of hot chocolate there needs to be something extra in it. Like your business you need to do something unique and bold. This is where experimentation comes in handy. What’s better than a cup of hot chocolate? Perhaps a cup with a dollop of peanut butter in it. You get the idea. Here are a few ideas to take your hot chocolate to the next level.

Mint hot chocolate – I love mint. Especially peppermint. I eat peppermint like it’s candy. Which it is. I always made my hot chocolate with milk as opposed to water. No matter how you pad this, you’re still drinking chocolate so why even try to cut the calories? Add in a few drops of peppermint extract and some crushed candy canes. Top it off with some whipped cream and you have a masterpiece.

Death by chocolate hazelnut – I do not like chocolate without mint. But I have heard that this cup is divine. Take whole milk (just do it) and make your base hot chocolate. Look for the richest and darkest mix you can find. Add a spoonful (or two or three) of nutella and stir it in. Add in some chocolate shavings from a dark chocolate bar or some fudge and some chocolate whipped cream. Drink this slowly.

Holiday Spice – I grabbed this recipe from Our Best Bites. Check out their site if you haven’t already seen it. This recipe calls for white chocolate, pumpkin pie spice, gingerbread marshmallows, and cinnamon. Spice according to taste.

Here are a couple essential ingredients to have on hand to make good hot chocolate every day:
candy canes, nutella, cinnamon, chocolate truffles, whipped cream, semi-sweet chocolate chips, peanut butter, caramel sauce, dark chocolate sauce, and raspberry flavoring.

There are many more ingredients and you should go find them. Be creative. Make your hot chocolate as decadent as you think you are. If you find a recipe or an ingredient that rocks your cup, leave it in the comments. I need some new ideas for next year.
