Here at Innovation Simple we spend a pretty good amount of time each day behind a computer…obviously. Anyone who has worked in a similar environment knows that good music can do wonders to help keep things interesting as well as help to keep the creative juices flowing. The idea is to find music that is subtle enough to not be distracting but not so subtle that you don’t notice it’s there.

My new go-to band for when I’m in the “zone” with work is a group called Sleeping At Last. For those of you that are pretty music savvy, think Jonsi meets Keane meets Jon Foreman. One fan described their sound as being like a “moonlit jellyfish dance”. I think that paints a pretty clear picture.

Lately I’ve been listening to “Yearbook”, a year-long project the band undertook where they wrote and recorded 3 songs for each month of the year. The songs are supposed to sound somewhat the way those months feel, kind of like a modern take on Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons”.

I’ve found that I am able to focus a lot better on my work when I have this kind of music playing in the background. Is that just me? Do you feel like you’re the same way? I’m always looking to broaden my music collection, so if you have a personal favorite that you like to listen to when you’re in the “zone”, please do share!
