Have you ever wondered how a website put a little picture in the address bar? That little picture is a favicon which is short for Favorites Icon. Originially the favicon would be placed in the root or base level of the webserver, but these days there is a snippet of html that can be placed in a sites code to the browsers where the favicon is. The favicon feature where the icon had to be placed in the root level of the webserver was originally by Microsoft for their browser.
