This morning the Gmail development team received alerts that consumers and businesses could not access their Gmail accounts worldwide.

Although the actual incident was only a few hours it goes to show that when you are dealing with technology and the internet that there are always unexpected things that come up. Those who were in the UK and US could have still accessed their Gmail offline with Gmail Labs, but unable to send or receive emails.

Only a few short hours can hurt businesses who use Gmail as a main means of communication. The total outage for Gmail this morning was 2 1/2 hours. Those who try to access their Gmail accounts may be asked to fill in a CAPTCHA code which is a precaution that Gmail uses to verify if you are human.

This goes to prove that if you are an internet business owner that there are always things that can happen. It is because of these type of situations that you should take all of the precautionary means in making your website stay up and available at all times.

One of the biggest things you can do as an internet business owner is have a good hosting company.
