Virality: “the tendency of an image, video, or piece of information to be circulated rapidly and widely from one Internet user to another; the quality or fact of being viral.” (Oxford Dictionary)
Any company or brand executive has dreamt of the opportunity to create something that goes viral, but for Brad Montague, the founder of Kid President, it was pretty much an accident.
Kid President’s most viral video, A Pep Talk from Kid President to You, has more than 32 million views and continues to grow every day.
The Kid President series is a collection of videos featuring Robby Novak. This energetic 10-year-old, who happens to be Montague’s brother-in-law, gives great life lessons for young kids, and adults, to follow.
The first video debuted in July of 2012 with only 200 views. The second video they produced had received more than 2000 views , at this point they knew they had something special. Montague contributes the secret to his success to the sincerity and innocence of the message.
“The Internet, in general, is a dark place. It is easy to be cynical. It is easy to post your opinion everywhere in all caps and yell,” Montague told Entrepreneur.com at The Feast social innovation conference in New York City in October of last year. “And for something to come out that has no agenda other than to be happy and full of love is kind of weird.”
Though it may be weird, it is also quite entertaining. Kid President has since partnered with Soul Pancake, a place where people could wrestle some of life’s biggest problems. Soul Pancake has a following of more than 930,000.
In every episode Novak busts a move on the dance floor. Considering he has osteogenesis imperfecta, a disease that has caused him to break more than 70 bones in his body, this is quite the feat. This fun loving child sees the world differently and Montague is helping us see the world through his eyes.
