Silver Bells and the Silver Screen

One of my favorite things to do at Christmas time is get together with friends or family and watch holiday movies. Elf, for example, has made it an average of 6 times per Christmas since it came out. Part of what makes these flicks so great is the music that accompanies them! The following are, in my opinion, the 3 greatest holiday soundtracks of my generation:

(In no particular order)

1. The Polar Express – This is definitely one of my favorites because of the way it combines so many genres of holiday music. Anytime Steven Tyler and Josh Groban are side by side on an album, the music gods are high-fiving each other. This soundtrack does a great job of combing the classics with new hits and even throwing in some brilliant instrumental pieces.

2. Elf – This is by far one of the spunkiest Christmas soundtracks out there. I can’t get enough of the old-school, swing jazz sound that a lot of the album has. This is probably my go-to choice for Christmas parties.

3. Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas – This soundtrack is very different from the others. It is almost completely lacking in classic Christmas tunes. Most of the songs are originals done by current artists such as Ben Folds, Barenaked Ladies, and Eels. I definitely like this one for mixing things up a bit.

Whether you watch the movies or just listen to the soundtracks, enjoy this great holiday music and have a very Merry Christmas!
