YouTube has made serious changes and strides since Google acquired them and has even become more popular. YouTube has announced that they are increasing the video time allowed from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. Here is an excerpt from the official announcement:
“We want YouTube to be the best place to upload video. Without question, the number one requested feature by our creators is to upload videos longer than 10 minutes. We’ve heard you, and today we’re pleased to announce that we’ve increased the upload limit to 15 minutes.”
YouTube videos are being uploaded at an astonishing rate and are being watched every second by millions of internet users. Not only are YouTube videos being watched on YouTube.com but they are also being watched on other sites as website owners can embed YouTube videos on their websites.
YouTube is offering a contest called 15 minutes of fame where they are asking people to upload a video and to tag it with “yt15minutes” and upload it by Wednesday August 4th. YouTube will select a handful of individuals and feature their 15 minute video on the home page in future spotlights.
I would like to go out on a limb and say that this is not going to be the last time that YouTube increases the length of time that a video can be uploaded. With online video increasing more than ever I bet YouTube will increase to 30 minutes or 1 hour time limits.
