GA is Essential

Google Analytics may or may not change your life but it will definitely change the way you measure the effectiveness of your website.

You’ll be able to see what pages viewers use to enter and leave your site, where they’re lead and where they come from to get to your site. By having this data available you’ll be able to see what parts of your site are most effective and which ones may need some work.

If your business has a heavy presence on the Internet for sales, inquiries or general information then Google Analytics is a tool you’ll need. Let this data help you measure and reach your goals.

Getting Set Up

Google Analytics is for everyone and the best part is that it’s free. Setting up an account will only take a few minutes so don’t hesitate to get started.

Try not to be overwhelmed by all of the information that is available to you through Google Analytics. The best thing you can do is to get to know what’s available to you and then decide which bits of data are most important to improving your business.

Things to Note

Google Analytics provides a ridiculous amount of data . . which is good, but it’s also bad if you find yourself overwhelmed so pick a few key points that you’d like to focus on. Focus is good for all businesses.

Here are some key points I recommend you focus on first:

Bounce Rate

Each page will have a bounce rate that represents the number of visits who came to your website and left without taking any further action.

Conversions

Your sites conversions is measured by a goal you set for your website. It may be an action like a sale, signing up for a newsletter or watching a demo.

Social Media Links

Google Analytics also allows you to track where your traffic is coming from. If you’re managing a social media campaign you’ll certainly want to measure how much of your site traffic is coming directly from your social media pages.

Once you get the hang of Google Analytics you’ll want to expand the data points that you’re measuring, but until then – just focus on the basics. That’ll be enough to keep you entertained for a while.
