Using Photography for your Business

Making your business stand out from the crowd is increasingly difficult these days. There are lots of terrific marketing avenues to follow, but then again there are lots of different businesses which follow them. The clever use of photography in marketing campaigns can really help your business to stand head and shoulders above the competition.

Photographs can be a terrific marketing tool for any business, when they are used effectively. You do, however, need to think about one or two details about the photographs you upload to either your own website or onto a social networking site.

Photographs on Websites

Almost all websites have a collection of photographs on them these days, but you need to think about what they are there for and how they are to be used. Is it just a generic photograph to convey your business image and maybe your products or services? What about the addition of a few personal photographs of yourself and staff? Do you have an “about us” page with photographs of the key members of staff? Every time you upload a photograph to your website or other marketing venue, think about what it says, what you want it to say, and who you want to say it to.

Photographs for PR

Photographs are terrific for PR and should be used as much as possible. Don’t forget to think a little “outside the box” and decide, exactly, what message you want to convey with the photograph, as well as the story running alongside it. This type of free press can be very beneficial to a small business and help to gain not only exposure but also a certain amount of credibility. Keep an eye on your local newspapers to see what sort of stories they run – have you got a story to tell with a great photograph to run alongside it? Sending a good quality photograph in with your story will mean that the newspaper doesn’t have to take the trouble to send a photographer to your business.

Photographs and Testimonials

Testimonials are a fantastic addition to websites but, let’s face it, we all know that testimonials are not necessarily genuine. If you have a photograph of the person next to each testimonial it gives it a much higher credibility factor.

Photographs and Customers

It’s great to have a photograph of you or your staff interacting with your customers, and can be a very effective marketing tool. Photographs of people together help to convey honesty, openness, and trust. Don’t be tempted to use stock photos of actors–people really do know the difference.
